Fancy cowboy bowie I recently finished. 9 1/2 overall length with a hand rubbed 5 1/2 inch blade of 440C. Mother of pearl handle with an antique sterling ferrule and planished (hammer whipped) stainless guard. Tooled sheath with a titanium and jade belt stud.

Fancy and plain at the same time, the lines are clean and she shines like show room new car, very nice work sir.

That is really a great looking knife, but you know what looks out of place to me? Your makers mark. Somehow those two As just don't look like they belong on that blade.

MOP on a Bowie always sends me to the "Confusion Couch"...lol.., but that is one gorgeous piece of work..., very nice!

very nice knife. just the kind of knife I'd add to my collection.
if you get a chance, also check out the photo instruction thread running in Gallery too.

Thanks for all the kind comments and one questionable comment (Mr. Montgomery). I have been making custom knives for 10 years or more. Each and every one of them has been marked with AA in approximately the same area of the blade, as I beleive most makers do. If you have other ideas as to what and where to mark my knives I will certainly entertain your input and suggestions !!!

VERY nice work, Al!

I have been admiring this for a couple days myself. It's a real good looker, and I can see your experience in this work.

Can we talk? Keith's remarks are never cryptic. Nor should they be. My FIRST reaction when I looked at this was similar. And not because you are marking your work--as well you should. This knife is more a period-style bowie and has a VERY classic look to it. Your mark, by contrast, has a very modern font. It's one of those things that just grabs my eye and I end up fixating on it.

You keep on keepin' on, but I would also think a more diminutive or similar-themed mark may be most befitting of this beauty. This is coming from a collector's eye--and aren't we a target?? ;) :D

That background has shown some mighty fine Winston's in the past, am I correct?? Nice once again.

Thanks for showing us!

Good eye Blade747. Mr. Winston and I are neighbors and good friends. I was experimenting with his light box and my camera on this knife.
