My coworker found his old Benchmade 875 Sentinel. I managed to clean it out and get her flipping again, but she's still in need of some serious TLC. I'm sending it out to Benchmade on March 22nd with a note to inspect and lubricate, along with replacing the hardwear and sharpening, along with fixing the late lockup (as per pbcg's suggestion). I'll update this when I get it back!

Tracking to Benchmade: 9505 5111 2138 5082 3852 04

UPDATE:

Holy hell.

Seriously, your not going to say how your Co-worker found it? ;) Gosta know.

Well he remembered buying it 10-15 years ago at a local sporting goods store that has since closed. He saw my Contego and Grip and recognized the brand. Once he said he had an old Benchmade lying around, I insisted he find it. This was the old Benchmade :-)

Nice find. Send it up to the Benchmade plant for servicing. That's in good condition after all of these years.

That's a very cool guy you work with. Lots of the time it's the other way around. People missing knives because of coworkers.;)

Was kinda hoping to hear a story like" Me and my coworker was working underground, suddenly the floor beneath us gave way and we fell into an arcane uninhibited cave, we looked around and the only light shone was gleaming on an alter with the disconitued 875, we walked toward it with caution, suddenly my coworker stepped on a stone that sunk into the floor and made two doors built into the walls crash open, immediately hordes and hordes of Cthulhu like creatures flew out those doors directly at us with intent to slay us with unbound murderous rage, all we had to defend ourselves was a 810 and 551, we cut through the abhorrent reptilic beasts with the Benchmade blades like a warm knife through butter, after all were slain we ran towards the 875 with haste, my coworker reached towards the knife gripping the scales pulling it from out of the air which it hovered above the alter, then from the ceiling a beast swung down grasp my coworker's body and ripped him in half like a childs doll, I went to the upper half of his body and he said to me" Here, I want you to have this most coveted of Benchmade knives", then he passed away, with volatile anger I rose from the floor, rushed towards the enemy with rocks crushing beneath my feet, let my arm dangled behind me in preemptive strike, then swung the blade twice, first decapitating, then eviserating, it's legs were the last parts to hit the floor. I brought the 875 and beasts head home where they both reside on the wall. It was a good day.;)

Congrats on the new knife.

I'd send it in to BM. They would clean, inspect, lubricate. Plus replace the hardware ie: washers & screws, and then sharpen. They can also ajust / tighten the lock up if needed. Just enclose a note requesting the above and they will take care of it. I'd also ask for a new clip but to please allow you to keep the old one. It's like getting back an almost like new knife.

They've done it for me with older models, but you do have to be specific and ask.

The Sentinel cleans up easy and nice as it's mostly titanium. It's dirty but looks worse then it actually is.

All the best!

Awesome that he found it! Now, send it in and request that the lockbar be adjusted since it travels over 50% of the way. When it comes back, it will be cleaned, with new washers and screws, and (if you keep the old clip at home) a new pocket clip.

That is cool. It is still in very good condition, and should clean up nicely...

Normally I would say just clean it good, touch up the edge and put it back together, including using the original clip because I have started liking the look of an old style pocket clip with honest wear.
I do agree with others though about having the lock adjusted. I noticed it right away. That said, I have never had this model so I don't know what is considered normal.
I'm sure even at 50% it is probably safe, but I would at least ask BM just to be sure.

Lol, I'm sorry my back story wasn't that intricate!

I'm going to write exactly that on a note and put it in the box. Thanks for the advice! I'm not a fan of serrations but it's seriously awesome to see a 15 year old knife in this great of condition.

I'm definitely going to keep the old clip hehe!

I'm going to write a note and I'll make sure to mention the lock. Thanks!
