I would appreciate any help in locating a picture of the Coyote Brown and Desert Sage blade finishes. Spent too much time surfing the web with no results and figured this is the right place to ask.
yup i stuck one in a coyote and couln't find it again, plus it matches my coyote brown mall ninja crap, so since there was no mud inthe desert today but plenty of coyotes we ordered our ash-1 skinny's in coyote brown.
Here are some pic's of both....a RMD in Desert Sage and a SJTAC custom in Muddy or Coyote Brown...
The Desert Sage works well for me as a potential "user" coating for that sort of terrain...the bright light in the desert means a coated blade is probably needed to avoid "glint" or "tells" as they are called...the sage colour is also light enough to know the blade is "clean" for food preperation. This is my favourite "combat" coating.
I like the serrated clip on the SJTAC custom...a useful feature for "ferro rod" striking...particularly on a coated blade where a strike edge is not available on the spine...but I have stripped this knife to eventually put on a D/C finish...this can still "glint" in bright desert but for food prep work and general use for a 6 inch blade I like a finish I know is properly clean and when to clean it....and for most "theatres" of terrain and climate a D/C finish avoids "glare".
The 3B2 you would need to use like a large blade and have a smaller none coated blade...probably a locking folder...for food. But this finish would be "very" effective for use with a Ghillie Suit on "hide" work in "Green" theatres...you could be sure no "tells" were likely. The top photo has for me the two most useful "coatings"....where they are an advantage compared to a D/C finish. All told though you can most easily use a D/C finish IMO...it has the best of both worlds for me most of the time.
