Not sure how many guys here hunt, but after Johns post about the coyotes in his back yard I thought I'd share my contribution.

During fall turkey season- the last week in Oct. I walked up on this guy in the edge of a cedar thicket about 10 in the morning.

Then deer hunting this afternoon about 4:30 I spotted this one. I'm hunting the edge of a CRP field that's been strip mowed. I spotted the coyote, then he went in one of the strips that hadn't been mowed and I couldn't see him. Next a small buck (with only one side of his rack), walks thru and cross's that strip of grass. After the buck passes the coyote comes out into the next mowed strip not 50 yards from where the buck was. After the shot the buck stood in the field looking my way for a long time, before finally walking off. Glad it didn't totally scare him.

I don't guess I can help John with his coyotes but I can help out around here.

One night on the way home last week I saw two deer on the edge of the road and about 75 yds up on the other side of the road was a coyote whose attention appeared to be focused on the deer. We have them all over the place here in N. Georgia.

They are a big problem here in CT. A couple even showed up in central park in NYC. not so long ago. They seem to thrive in urban situations, feeding on cats and dogs. Just got home from two weeks away and was happy to find my cats still alive.

Congrats! Do you have any plans for the pelts?

Not really. About all I know would be to split it up the belly and then skin it, but I don't think that's right if selling or keeping hides. Guess I should research that a little bit. Wish I could find somebody close that traps that could show me what all to do with the hides.

I hate Coyotes. They drive me insane in gun season here. If they are close enough, I'll shoot, but they usually just stay on the outside of my range somehow...

I'm not a hunter (willing to learn though) and I know we have coyotes all around where I live in the country. Pests...

Hi Derek -

Thanks for the pictures.

I can't shoot in my area - I could if I did not live in this "lake community", but alas.

best regards -

Good stuff. My 22-250 has been needing to get out and get some action. I haven't hunted in a while but I load a 40 grain Sierra hollowpoint up to 4080 fps and it does a number on yodel dogs. They drop like they've been poleaxed.
