Now that I've got your attention
I finally got around to stripping my 2.
Used painter's(masking) tape so coating under handles could be retained
Tools needed, only thing not shown is eye protection & sandpaper with grit of choice(I used 1200)
after about an hour or so, lost track of time studying for a Cisco exam...
You can just about make out the coating 'bubbling' off the blade. Sorry crappy phone pics!
this is how she looked after scraping with plastic scraper & water rinse. You can clearly see the painter's tape didn't do a good job. So heads up to you guys out there planning on strippin. Unless I used wrong kind of painter's tape, I went the el cheapo route. Duct tape is a definite NO NO.
After sanding with 1200G. Decided to keep left over patchy coating under handle.
Apple cider vinegar soak for a few hours, which is way to long, an hour max is good. When I removed from vinegar I was able to remove a layer of patina with just a cloth. It doesn't show in pic but you can actually see the vinegar bubbling as it reacts to the metal.
Then another round of light sanding with 1200G as I wasn't happy with patina(too dark due to me leaving in vinegar for too long). Sorry again for crappy pic!
It all comes together when you slap the micarta back on, idn't she purdy! It's like a whole new knife, I couldn't stop fondling.........the blade!
And finally here she is with brother 10!
Apologies for lengthy post! Just wanted to include every step & I know how much yall enjoy pics!
Now if I can just get my hands on a 9!
