CP vs Non-CP

Can you guys please provide opinions for and against. I just got my 2nd ESEE which is beautiful but I got a CP and I am wondering if I should send it back and get a non CP - I got the CP because I felt it would be a better performing defensive blade, but I like the idea of a non CP for tip strength for batoning... help!!!

P.S. Got a 4 CP , have a Junglas, have been looking at the 6.

The clip point may chew up a baton a little however i personally would not worry about a strength issue. Use it responsably and it will last a lifetime and if anything does ever happen its covered. Traditionally if you are using it for bushcraft then i would have gone non cp.Restricts you from doing alot of things safely imho. However for defensive purposes lets be realistic. The non cp will do just as much damage as the cp version. If it was me....i would send it back and swap for a non cp.

I got an ESEE-4 CP and almost cut myself because I'm used to all my blades on one side.

It's definitely something to be wary of.

I haven't found any uses for the CP, oddly enough. :(

You may want to check your local knife laws as a double edged blade could be illegal.

I know that they are where I live.

I like to EDC my 4 and CPs are illegal to carry in TX. So I got the plain. I almost got one though.

I would think that as a defensive tool. Slicing critical areas on the limbs of an attacker to hinder mobility, as in tendons of the forearm or lower thigh, would be better to take them out of the fight anyway. As opposed to stabbing.

I say whatever floats your boat.

As stated previously, check your local laws regarding the clip point first.

The only reason I own a 3MIL CP is so I can use the clip point edge with my firekit.

Since I started using a Corona sharpener as a firekit striker, the CP gets very little use.

Whenever I see CP, I instantly think the reference is to child pornography. I work in the IT industry, specialized in the security sector and was considering working as a computer forensic specialist to help bust pedophiles.........I despise them. Sorry to derail the thread, just kind of came out.

Back to topic - I thought about getting a ClipPoint for use in a hunting knife. I could see how it could help make an initial piercing in the throat of a deer and also with general skinning/cleaning/cutting up the animal......being able to cut with both motions.....towards and away......left and right.......without having to turn the knife.

+1, I wouldn't use the abbreviation "CP" by itself like that.

I was referring to part of an ESEE model format, not child porn. I apologize for confusing you and misleading you into thinking this thread was about child porn. Thanks for the input everyone the ESEE-4P-CP has been returned and an ESEE-4P is on its way to keep the Junglas company.

Good grief. That never even entered my thought process. I knew exactly what you meant dishonor39.

I'm sorry if that came out wrong, I fully understood what you meant.....it's just in my line of work CP means something else. All of the ESEE lines that have clip points have a CP attached to it. People will usually write ESEE-3CP or ESEE-3-CP to specify the size of the knife as well as the style of the blade. the initial 'CP vs non-CP' clearly indicated you were talking about the knives, but without a model number it made me think of a darkside of my job. No offense or disrespect was meant, man.

Good choice! Now wait til it gets delivered and use the crap outta the thing!
