CPK Light Chopper WINS Cutting Contest....

Wow, that's really cool, I'm glad to hear it. Though I think it's important for folks to remember that it is the musician, not the instrument.

Congratulations to Bill Flynn! We're glad to be able to play a role in your victory.

And a further quote from the master of mammoth, Don Hanson III:

"I would buy one of Nathan's knives in a heart beat, they are very good knives! Don"

Congrats to Bill Flynn in his 2nd win. And congrats to the CPK team for giving him the tool to do it with. 👍👌

Congrats to Bill Flynn on his win, and Nathan and team for an awesome knife!

I saw that in the Fisk show thread. Awesome job Nathan, Bill, and of course Mr. Fisk for hosting the show.

BTW, if you guys haven't checked out the knives in that thread, you certainly should. They are works of art.

Nathan, congratulations on a good knife design and making it work well. this is t he first time we have had a stainless stock removal knife win at our knife rodeo. It is always good to keep old hands on their toes and not be complacent. Sitting on your arse and doing the same thing all time never goes further than you own arse. So again, it is good to see someone kicking it up.
Bill Flynn did a good job with a good knife.

Hey Jerry, thanks for dropping by our forum.

The design was a collaboration with me, Lorien, and (4 time cutting champ) Dan Keffeler. It's gratifying to see it used in a competition.

The steel is actually not a stainless, it's a tool steel, (3V) with a heat treat that was optimized for edge stability, which helps a little with thinner geometry.

I'm sure Bill would have done well with any knife he'd have chosen, so I'm grateful he chose one of ours. We try to focus on performance here, so the win is both vindicating and useful exposure for our work.

Well isn't that just cool, a post from Mr. Fisk in the CPK sub  Congrats to the maker and the competitor!

Guys,

The Fisk show is a LOT of fun, and I can't say enough about how gracious Jerry and Bob are as hosts:thumbup::thumbup:

Jerry is pretty clever coming up with "events" for these competitions - it is not just hacking' rope and 2 x 4s.

some tests require stabbing - IE a nice point, and one that is not weak.

Plus, there is a little gamesmanship - the last event is a water bottle cut - everyone has to call the number of bottles he/she are going to cut BEFORE anyone tries....you get points for each bottle but ZERO if you don't get them all

Anyway, I had a good day and some luck....would not want to cut against Jerry though: he cut thru a standing shotgun shell and left the base still on the table, and cut water bottles after tossing them in the air :thumbup:

Oh, one more thing...

Hey Nathan - does this mean I get first crack at any new prototypes for testing purposes ? :D

Bill

Hi Bill,

Sounds like a great time. What was the shotgun shell loaded with? I would like to give that a try. I've done lots of empty drink cans with the base left standing but never a shotgun shell.

Justin

empty shell - i.e. already used :D

makes it very light - you have to be REAL quick thru it with the blade, or the shell goes flying! Angle has to be right too.

I have no problem cutting the shell...but leaving the bottom standing is hard

For the sake of avoiding a Darwin Award - I'm sure the shotgun shell was empty... before any chopping was done!

(some ass-hat is going to come along here and get the bright idea to try doing this with a loaded shell)

EDIT - Bill beat me to it...
