CPM 10v lamination with spring steel

Hi guys! I plan to make a great sword pretty soon and I decided I would try laminating a layer of CPM 10v on top of a core of 5160 alloy spring steel. 10v would probably be too brittle for a homogeneous single steel blade, so why not laminate spring steel for a flexible core? Would this work? Would the heat treatment be quite difficult? I expect some good answers. Thank you guys!

The 5160 alone will make a great sword, if properly heat treated. What benefit will you get from laminating CPM10v on it?

Try it with small pieces and deliver a full report. :)

Great increased in wear resistance and edge holding capability. The one drawback is it'll be harder to sharpen.

Are you trying to make a Sam Mei then with a core of CPM10v? I may have misunderstood your question. If the core is 5160, it wouldn't be any harder to sharpen than any other 5160 blade.

It may be a good idea to post your question in Shoptalk, where you can get a variety of advice.

Forge welding any CPM steel may prove to be...festive, shall we say. 5160 done right makes an excellent sword.

True. I've seen stainless and carbon forge welded, of course, everyone has. But I can't recall any example of a CPM and carbon forge welded. That does not mean it can't be done, just seems to be uncommon.
