CPM-154, or 154-CM?

This is something I've wondered about for a while now, does anybody know if the steel benchmade uses is the powder metallurgy version of 154-Cm or not? I'm guessing it's not, since it's listed as plain 154Cm on the website and all the material I've seen doesn't indicate it as being CPM-154.

So, anybody know?

It is 154-CM. CPM 154 is a bit different (with better performance), and probably not something you are going to get on a $60 Benchmade Mini-Grip...

I'm aware CPM-154 is different, but I was confused due to differing sources saying two different things.

I was actually asking in regards to my new Nim Cub, but it works out the same.

The Benchamde engraving on the blades is 154-CM. if it was the other it would be indicated as such. I have not seen the newer Nim Cub knives, but my guess is they are 154-CM (same as the full size Nimravus I have from 7 years ago).

I've heard, and in my own BM's, that their 154 is very good. I've seen other posts indicating a lot has to do with the heat treating process used. But I am in no way a steel expert. I just know that between my knives with CPM154, or 154 CM, or even S30v for that matter, in practical use, I cannot really tell the difference.

I believe Emersons also use 154CM but I have no idea if they source from the same steel fabricator.

CPM 154 is the particle metallurgy version of 154CM. The chemical composition is the same (as it is with ATS34 and RWL34), but the microstructure (grain) is finer and more consistent due to the specifics of the manufacturing process, which gives marked improvements in toughness and impact strength for the CPM steel. Basically, the CPM is a class above its traditional counterpart.

But to tha you have to add the HT, geometry in the balance. Most available blades, however are by far thos in 154CM.

Improvments in toughness and impact strength can't be seen unless you abuse your knives. As for the rest, s30v should hold an edge slightly better, at the same hardness, but edge holding and cutting performance has more to do with geometry than just the steel itself, so without a lab type test, differences will be hard to notice.
