I'm considering a CPM 20CV knife but i have not experience with this type of metal. Searching the internet shows it's a tough metal with great corrosion resistance.

What i would like to know is how difficult is this steel to sharpen and how well it retains the edge. I only have stones, not diamond plates or any other sharpening system. What works best to sharpen these?

thanks for any info.

cpm20cv is equivalent to m390 & cts-204p, which is about 60% more alloy/carbide than s35vn (1.9% vs 1.4% Carbon). For freehand sharpening with finish edge 1K or coarser, you can use variety of abrasives(OA, SiC, Diamond, CBN, BN) to sharpen. Diamond/cbn/ceramic is better at grit finer than 1K.
