These were a lot of fun to make, I hope you guys enjoy the pics!

Black on Black - Tsuka Maki over cord wrap

LVA Carbon Fiber - one is all satin and the other two have acid washed flats

These pics turned out a bit dark... I boosted the contrast on this one and you can see the pins. In person they are tough to find. :D

These are two of my favorites but were tricky to photograph... Rayskin! Cream White with Satin and Red with an Acidwashed finish.

We can see here, after so many years passed, why the Japanese knives will always be popular. Form AND function.
Great work, Daniel.

Thanks Rolf! I agree, they are timeless designs for a good reason.

Here's what I've been working on this week, a stonewashed blue RF2 Framelock.

Nice work Dan

I like your style :)

I like yerr style Daniel   Seriously though, those are sweet! Always a fan of your grinds/ plunges, and the wraps are ver clean! Would you mind if I asked ya how you terminate the tsuka maki wrap after wrapping in through the hole in the tang? Beautiful work as always bro! :)

Thanks!

I got this technique from a Wally Hayes Katana video... if you size the tang hole around 5/16" the cord will fill the hole and be very tough to pull through the last few wraps... just tack in place with a drop of superglue then cut cleanly. I have tried all sorts of stuff and like this the best. I still want to do some with a traditional knot but need to do the handle a bit differently, this works very well for these streamlined modern style ones.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Thanks Rolf!

Thanks Adam! You're knocking them out of the park!

Thanks Josh! I'm a big fan of your work.

Rick Menefee - I'm watching your work closely! Good stuff and much appreciated.

Sweet, finally!.. a simple and clear answer! Thank you man, feel like I've looked everywhere and could not seem to find out how ta do it cleanly without tying a traditional type knot. Since you mention the hole being 5/16", may I also ask what size/type of wrap you are using and where you get it from?

Btw, that RF2 looks sick!! :)

Thanks!

I'm using regular sized shoelace. I promised not to give away my source but just make sure they are not cotton. Fat laces are cool too, I like a 3/8" hole with them.

I figured I might be crossin the line at some point as it seems when it comes to japanese style wraps (or any aspect of making in their style) there is always some aspect of it kept secret by makers :D lol But it's all good, I understand what can happen if a source is exposed to all the knifemaking public... So would it be alright to ask if it's nylon laces I should be looking for instead of cotton? Thanks Daniel! :) And sorry as well! :o

I like to keep my process as transparent as possible yet respect others wishes as well. As far as I am concerned helping others only furthers our progress as a whole and any competition only pushes us to make the knives even better... which can only be good. I believe keeping things open might not make things as easy for some to make money but it is better to allow competition and let the work do the talking. But a promise is a promise.

Also - let me know if I can ever help with anything... this is just one of those things someone helped me with and asked me to keep it under wraps. I really like to help any maker who asks me for information.

I like competition and would rather beat someone in a race by running faster than slowing them down.

Almost all laces work well, I think the epoxy is more important. Aero-marine brand epoxy and West System 207 hardener/105 resin are both made for cloth and soak in like crazy.
