I have been searching for a relative values graph and other information for Sleipner steel that Lionsteel uses for it's new M7 model. To my knowledge Lionsteel uses a heat treat that they developed. The only information that I have found is that Speipner is similar to D2 with some added toughness and has a little better edge retention.I am interested in the Lionsteel M7 model and was curios how this steel performs against other steels such as CPM 3V on large fixed blade knives.CPM 3v would be my current choice for this sized knife and is some tough stuff.Does anyone have experience with Sleipner and CPM 3V on fixed blade knives? Are the any members that have an opinion comparing the steels in a real word scenario use or head to head experiments and testing?
Thanks for the education...

There's probably more info out there to be had, but here's a review from a few months back on the Legion, which uses Sleipner...

Truth be told, in most cases, other than a carbon vs. stainless corrosion resistance, most people would be hard pressed to tell most of the quality steels apart in real-world use less it were known or stamped on the blade. And heat treat is probably as much, if not more of a factor than the base metal itself. Meat cutters and the like who use blades all day, every day might be able to tell a difference, but for most other folks, probably not. Some steels might be a little tougher to sharpen, but if you're talking the other high end materials, they're all pretty good. If you like the M7, don't let the fact it doesn't have CPM3V stop you from getting it.
