CPM 440V Spyderco C-50: Did it ever exist?

I have quite a few of Spyderco's catalogs. I have many dealer and customer catalogs with some obscure listings that I now have to believe probably don't exist. However there is one model that I truly wish did exist. I have a year 2000 Spyderco dealer's catalog that has the C-50 Centofante model listed with CPM 440V blade steel. A few years back I went on about a 2 year search to try to find that one. I have concluded it never existed beyond prototype stage or maybe the demand shrunk on the model and they never went forth with it.

I know there are some of you here on BF that have a much richer knowledge of Spyderco's history than I do. There are others I've never found that are listed in their catalogs as well. I've never been able to find a C-39 Dyad model with GIN-1 blade steel in it. And a couple of others I could mention like a VG-10 Merlin model.

Would I ever love to have a user 440V Centofante C-50 model. That was a great Spyderco classic model and I've always thought it would have been a user's dream in 440V blade steel. If any of you know the straight scoop on it please chime in. JD

This is interesting. Because whenever a Spyderco C-50 goes up on EBay it gets much interest. But yet no one has any input on this?

It's funny in a way because when I first joined both forums back in 2004 The C-50 and it's little brother the C-25 were talked about a lot and were very easily obtainable. Unbelievable how much change a small amount of time can make on the popularity of one model.

I'm not giving up though because I'm willing to bet that they at least had a prototype of a 440V, C-50 model.

I would love a list of Spyderco prototypes that never made it to the main line up. The C-50 is another Spyder that ZDP-189 would work well on

All I found was there is no record of a C50 with CPM440V steel and it may have been a typo.

This knife appeared in later catalogs stating steel was CPM-440V, however, no records of any CPM-440V version actually exists. This may or may not be a typo.

I have only ever seen ATS 34 blades.

Yeah thanks Jeff & Jill :) I thought that would probably be the verdict :( But I was hoping upon HOPE that maybe there might be just a handful of them out there somewhere. AS much as I love that particular past model I was really wishing that there might be just a few of the C-50 in 440V. Now I'm not at all knocking Spyderco's ATS-34 because every user Spyder I ever had with ATS-34 wasn't a bad blade at all. Even one with VG-10 would put a nice grin on my aged face :D

I think Jill is right about the "typo" because I've looked fervently for a GIN-1 Dyad Jr and never found one of them either. OK unless any of you come up with any surprises I'll just let this one die for now. Thanks for the input everybody :)
