Hi Everyone.

I am interested it trying some new steel for sword making. CPM 4V or Bohler-Uddeholm 4E. I have done web searches but I haven't found any in the size I need. If you don't know of a place that sells 4V, how about some CPM 3V? I'm looking for the best price in flat bar stock [3/16-1/4].187-.250" X 2" X 36"?

I'm also looking for someone who is good at heat treating CPM 3v & 4v steels.

I'm in San Jose California.

Thank you so much for the information.

Stings.

You can check with Alphaknifesupply. Heard some good things about it. If it's not in the right size, maybe send them an email? Hope it helps :)

Google 'New Jersey Steel Baron'. You might have problems finding a Business that will be able to deal with heat treatment for the long length of the sword (especially using the more complex steels).

3V is more appropriate for swords. You want toughness . Hardness and wear resistance is not so important.

SB Specialty metals has taken care of me in the past for 3V. I got tired of getting stung by purchasing online from Aldo and finding out that he didn't have any in stock after all. If you do buy from NJSB, I suggest you call your order in. For heat treat, you won't find much better than Peter's Heat Treat.
