Cpm-a-2??

I don't know of any reason why you couldn't make a CPM version of A-2. They do it with many tool steels.Perhaps the demand is not there.
 
It's pretty fine to begin with, the increase may not be great enough to justify the cost. 3V, after all, has about the same carbide volume, but it's vanadium carbide rather than chromium, and it's PM so the carbide and grain structure are even finer. The only reason why not to switch to 3V is if you're worried about ease in finishing.
