I have several knives with steel ranging from 440C to ZDP-189.I keep going back to my CPM-D2.I simply love this steel.I can get it hair shaving sharp and it'll last and last.I was just wondering what everyones take is on CPM-D2?Thanks all.

The only knife I use that has CPM-D2 is a Composite Blade Leek, and my experience with it there has been nothing but positive. Takes an extremely fine edge (I took it down to a little less than 30° inclusive on my Edge Pro) and holds it very well.

I like CPM-D2, as well. It's a great knife steel. But, if I don't need stainless, I prefer M4. If I do need stainless, I prefer M390.

I love the Spyderco Military and Para in CPM-D2. When I first got the D2 Para I carried it along with a fully serrated Military for 6 months, every day. The knife went through cardboard, rope, some light gardening, and more and it held an incredible edge. I really wish they would use that steel some more. Seems like the only production knives I've seen using it is Kershaw, and they do a great job on the HT as well, it's impressive.
I've been using the M390 TSEK this week. WOW! It's performing really well so far, I'm waiting for the factory edge (yea I know obtuse) to wear away so I can reprofile it and go 15 degrees per side. I love that knife because it's just huge (like teh Military) and easy to use, deploy, great fit and finish, and that steel is sick.

I couldn't be happier with its performance. I should have picked up a few of these when they were available.

LOVE the stuff! Although, I don't currently own any factory knives with CPM D2, my experience with it on custom knives has been excellent. I can get it sharper than normal D2 and it finishes easier. Holds the edge very well. I love CPM D2 so much that when the rumors of Crucible's bankruptcy were floating around, along with the rumor that no more CPM D2 was ever going to be made, I panicked. I checked every supplier I could think of and bought all I could. I remember calling Scott Devanna and buying everything they had left. Somewhere in my shop, I have a sheet that measures 3/16" x 16" x 36", just waiting for future projects. ;) :)

Now that's dedication!!!:D

I love my Benchmade 710 D2. It took a long time to get it to 30* inclusive on a Sharpmaker bt it polished up nicely on a strop and is a real cutter with great edge retention. :)
