Here is the sheep horn hunter we posted a few weeks ago. It has been dressed up a little by Jim Small and we promised a photo. It has a 4 inch blade made of CPM M4 with stainless bolsters and pins.

On another thread the question was asked about using customs. Charlie used this hunter to clean and bone out a nine point white tail this past Saturday and it is none the worse for the wear. No it did not need to be re-sharpened.

It measured 61Rc and is noticeably more wear resistant than the CPM S30V and CPM 3V we normally use. Charlie heat treated this prior to grinding and polishing and really doesn’t want to do another for a while.

you mean he ht ed the bar stock and then ground!
why did he ht to only 61, for a 3.5" blade from M4 I'm planning on taking it up to 64-65 if texas knife supply will get it up that high

He didn't want any possibility of it warping. The grinding wasn't all that bad, but if the polishing is any indication of the edge holding ability of this stuff, 61RC is plenty hard enough.

A very nice knife, and I like the engraving. It's nice to see more makers using CPM M4.
