Hey guys

debating between the two knives listed in the title

price is not an issue so that is not part of any consideration for my purchase

i am curious as to how you guys feel on this based on the technical features and specifics on both

i currently own and EDC an SMF DGG in Black i have also edc'ed the Ti Millie for some time but then i decided to sell it off

thanks for your input!!

SMF if I had a choice between the two.

Then I could sell it and pick up a pair of the M4 Militaries.

The SMF's will always be there. This won't.

If you are not in line to get a M4 mili, your only option is going to be on the secondary market when they do come out. If you are interested in one, I would recommend pulling the trigger on the first one you see because they are going to be hard to come by.

A pair of the M4 Militarys? I'm not sure what they're going to fetch on the resale market, but I wouldn't be surprised to see $350 or more, possibly a lot more? Dunno/don't care because I was in line the day Roger announced them and mine won't be for sale...

I don't think they're really comparable. The Strider is a genuine hard-use knife. The blade is very thick and will take a lot of abuse. The blade is also stainless steel, if that matters. The Military's blade is a wicked slicer but it will not take a whole lot of abuse, especially at the tip. And if you live/work in humid conditions, the M4 is going to take some care to avoid edge corrosion dulling the blade.

I've owned 2 SMFs and several Millies and heres my take on it.

The SMFs are a beefy, beefy knife and will withstand a lot of abuse if that's what you need them to do, overall a very solid knife. They are bulky and unless you get a CC version or gunner grips they are pretty heavy, have a large print and don't offer blade length over the Millie. If you don't have the option to carry a fixed blade when one may be needed I'd go for a SMF.

The Spyderco Military is a EDC cutter. It's lightweight, thin profile, offers good ergos and multiple grip options and plenty of blade. The standard Millie is a strong cutter and will hold up to everyday folder tasks short of prying and overt battery. The Millie is a better cutter and easier to replace if lost.

The CPM M4 Millie will likely be able to be flipped for a profit if that's your bag. CPM M4 is great steel and with the frame lock the SE Millie would make the ultimate EDC. If you want a hard use knife and a folder get the Millie and a ESEE RC4

M4 Military, you'll have a more usable knife, for less money and the Striders, well I haven't seen one without some kind of an issue (misaligned, grind marks, fit and finish issues in general)

I've never once heard of anyone having these issues with Spyderco

I didn't get in line because at the time it was not in the budget. I regret it now. :(

However, I have some very nice CRK's that I'm sure will be willing to console me. :)

I'd make some smart comment about a CRK being small consolation, but I'd be lying. ;)

Although this Millie should be pretty nice.:D

I have both coming in. I'll let you know when they get here.

:D

To answer the OP, I dont think you can really compare the two since the M4 Millie is going to be very limited and sought after (only 500 total pieces I think). I also believe that the M4 Millie is going to be easily better in every important aspect than the Strider except in the role of hard prying. IMHO the G10/Ti Framelock M4 Millie is the clear winner here.

I would pass on virtually any knife in the world for this sprint run of the Military. So there's my answer.

The M-4 G-10 TiRIL sprint really seems to pull all the stops and do everything that could possibly be done to make it the ultimate Mili (in my mind anyway), and therefore, quite possibly the ultimate knife (at least until a CPM S110V Stop Lock Military 2 comes out).

(at least until a CPM S110V Stop Lock Military 2 comes out).

I wish that would happen. Do you think Sal would make me one if I were to provide the steel?

Oh, and for the record I'd get the sprint run military. It works better for my uses instead of a folding stainless prybar. You really did pick two folders on opposite sides of the fence here.

...and corrosion resistance. If that matters, the Strider's S30V could be an advantage.

It will be interesting to see how many of the Ti/G10 M4 Militarys change hands right away, and how many later (say, six or twelve months out), and at what price. There were only 500 from a single dealer. But maybe they'll wind up priced like the S90V Militarys? - high but not crazy? Dunno, time will tell.

I've never heard of Sal doing custom work. Given how much daily effort it takes to run a manufacturing company, I doubt he ever will.

I would say to find a custom maker to do it, but you'll never get a Stop Lock from anyone but Spyderco (and at this rate maybe not even them, all we can do is hope).
