Does anyone here know anyone that forges with this steel? I want a 11 made from this, it's edge retention and stainless would be the main reasons. I dont mind any, if all lost on toughness has I don't use it that would need this qualit.

I don't think anyone 'forges' s30v, since I believe it is air-hardening. Someone should be able to make you a stock removal blade. However selling an exact duplicate of another maker's design is usually a good way to cause trouble.

Yeah, that's bordering on some legal issues. If you want close, within the next year, we should see a stainless Izula. Otherwise, head over to the Ka-Bar forum and talk to Tooj about it. I honestly would love a stainless 17, but I highly doubt I'll see one of those.

Oh ok thank you guys.

The main reason for this was a friend of mine had a 19cm CPM s30v bar with similar thickiness and willing to sell me, so i tought I could buy it and find someone to make it.

If you have a grinder you should get the bar and try grinding yourself a small knife similar in size but throw your own twist on it. It's definitely fun. Also I understand where you are coming from I love my 11 and carry it almost every day. If reasonable prices I would pick one up in a different steel than the normal 1095.

Ya I seriously doubt that anyone forges S30V. Any good maker should be able to make you a nice knife to your specifications though. I'd go ahead with it, but be sure to make some major changes so that it's not design theft.

But if you just make it for your self and don't sell it, would that still cause some problem? I figure not but I'm not not too informed on this. Call it a tribute rendition maybe?

If you make one for yourself, and do not intend to sell it, there is NO copyright problem. The maker of said knife also has NO copyright problem. The onus of design is on you, not the maker. Now if your buddies, and people on here start wanting them, that's a whole different story. But if you make yourself one knife, there is no problem with it.

BTW.... I am a graphic artist and I have been dealing with copyright laws for 25 years. It all goes to profitability, and in this case there is 0$. But again, and it can't be stated enough....it's YOUR knife, it WOULD be illegal to sell it at any time.

Now, go have it made, we all want to gawk at it. LOL
