What is the difference between CPM-S30V and plain S30V steel?? Is there a major difference in quality?

CPM just means "Crucible Powder Metallurgy" (the company) and S30V is the steel name itself. So it's just like "Chris Reeve Sebenza" compared to just "Sebenza".

It's "Crucible Particle Metallurgy" . S30V is from it's beginning a CPM steel, no plain version exists.
On the other hand the original plain 154CM has an improved CPM154 version .The two have the same chemistry but made differently.
In a similar way D2 has an improved CPM D2 version.
If you have a choice get the CPM version. Better properties make the added cost worth it !
