Anyone have a opinion on this blade steel? I have a new Custom coming my way soon. Its a VERy BAd BOY!!! The blade steel is this, and frankly I have no idea wether thats good or bad!!! Anyone, Bueller, anyone?

only things ive heard about it are that its not as good as s30v and has pretty much fell by the wayside. i dont know of any production knives using it. hope it works out for ya.

I saw that Spyderco is using this steel fo the new Native 5 in the 2011 spyderco catalog. Look at the steel properties in the spyderco catalog. I not a steel expert so i can't tell you much.

I had heard it described as "the steel that delivered on what S30V promised", or something to that effect, and that it was a slightly improved grade over S30V. I believe it's what Chris Reeve is using on the Nyala fixed blade.

My Nyala is S35V, and so far it seems to hold an edge very well.

Chris Reeve Knives is supposed to be transitioning all of their folders over to the S35V in 2011, and their new folder, the Ti-Lock - is S35V right out of the gate.

Since Chris Reeve helped develop the recipe for S30V, and is converting his knives over to S35V - it must be decent stuff.

I haven't done enough real world testing with my Nyala to be able to substantiate any real significant differences - and the differences might be so subtle that you would need lab testing to measure.

It's an excellent steel. I have done some extensive testing and would highly recommend it. I have a thread in my forum about the testing I did. Also used it on three deer with no need to resharpen.

I have the CRK Nyala in S35VN and so far I have had very good experiences with it. From what I can see it behaves in a similar
way to S30V but seems to have slightly better edge holding and might even be easier to get an edge on.

I'm a big fan of CRKs A2 one piece knives and personally rate them over the S30V knives, but the Nyala has become a favorite of mine. :)

I have a Dustin Turpin Repentance in this steel and have nothing bad to say about it. It takes a very, very good edge, but I haven't used the knife for any real cutting. From what I've read the steel is an improvement over S30V, and it finishes easier and better than S30V.

one knifemaker describe this blade steel to me as S30V on steroids. I have two customs in this steel and both perform superbly. I don't think you will be disappointed with this blade steel at all.

Reeve also helped Barber also develop CPM-S35VN before Barber left Crucible.

In our testing, S35VN had advantages over S30V both in manufacturing and abrasion resistance. I think it will just take a while to see more of it our there. Crucible had a hiccup last year that slowed production. Niagara is now handling Crucible streels and S35VN should be readily available for factories and custom makers.
