Interested in the CPM S60V blur. How many were made?.Was this a limited production. Are there any other knives by Kershaw with the CPM S60V steel?.
The seconds on the Blur CPM S60V,are they defective in just the grind lines. Is the heat treat still good on these.
Would appreciate it if MR ThomasW or someone else could chime in with some info.Thank you.

We've done a handful of knives in S60V (CPM-440V)(now discontinued), someone will chime in with what models I'm sure.

With the Blur project, we had enough steel to do about 400 blades, of which 15 of them passed QC. The balance was then XXX'd out and sold in the warehouse sale last weekend. The 386 2nd's sold rather quickly as you can imagine.

The problem was indeed the grinds. The clip sides for some unexplained reason had a small wave in them once sharpened. HT on them was/is to spec.

Mr ThomasW ,thank you very much for the prompt reply. That was the type of info I was looking for.Appreciate it very much.

I have been carrying my S60V Blur all week since scoring one at the sale and love it!!!! Great knife to begin with but knowing it is a rare bird makes it even cooler :)

The Random Task (first AO) was done in CPM-440v/S60V, as was the Ricochet. Unsure of other models in this steel...kershawguy will make an appearance soon...

It seems to me that there may have been a few avalanches done in CPM440V , not sure though , as far as the S60V blurs go, I have a boatload of them and will only be making them available here on BF until you guys quit buying them, I have already sold around 20 and after those guys see how nice they are everybody will want one.

Bummer.

Was everything past the point of no return when the defect was found? You'd think if the first few that went through were bad that the rest would be put on hold untill a solution could be found. It would be interesting to know exactly what was wrong (error in the CNC machine? bubbles in the steel?).

Pics?

As Dave mentioned, I think there are some Avalanches out there with S60V, and some of the earlier Boas were also 440V/S60V as well.

Bummer indeed JJ.

I don't believe there was much we could really do once the issue was found. Not sure exactly how it actually happened, it just went a bit off in the grinding process, and was only noticed when we sharpened the blades. Odd for sure.

That really sucks for Kershaw, and for most of us. (Although I am sure the blem will suit me just fine!)

However...according to the S60V auction that is going on right now....with 6(!!!) days left, the owners of the 15 Blurs that passed quality control should be quite happy.

There is plenty of Avalanches still out there with s60v/440v. The s60v ones also have a different handle. It is only tip down, and doesnt have a smooth spot under the clip.

Wow, that would make new, non-blems rather rare. Would be a nice collectors knife.
