Visited Pops Friday on our way to a family reunion in SC. They were stocked with 1.5" 1/8" bars very fairly priced. Since Crucible has shut down, I asked where it came from and was told Niagara.

I've seen old stock CPM154 at a show or two that was obscenely priced. Big tip of the cap to Pops for both, finding a new source and pricing it right.

On another note, we stayed with my best friend who until a few years ago, made knives too. We got to talking about blades and such and he dug out three sticks in his shop and handed them to me. See the attached pics. For the record, I don't think Pops will match their old price.

erasteel bought what was left of crucible including their steel trademarks and now is now the producer of those steels with niagara as the distributor/rolling mill. Not sure about the rest of the steels like 154 but larrin did do a comparison between the crucible made magnacut and the new erasteel made magnacut and for whatever metallurgical microstructure reasons the erasteel stuff slightly edged out the old crucible stuff which is a good sign.

Niagara relatively recently launched their own direct sale online shop so you can buy straight from them if you can’t find it anywhere else
