I have to say that I really like 154CM. It has always done what I want it to. Is 154CPM better? If so, I sure would like to try it. Are their companies using it now?

Kershaw made at least one version of the Blur in CPM154. I'm not sure if it's still in production but Kershawguy had some recently.

I can't remember where I saw it but an article I read said that the difference between 154 CM and CPM 154 CM was an advantage to the maker more so than to the end user. The finer structure of the CPM steel makes it easier to work with and finish. At least according to the article.

There is no such thing as CPM154CM. Or 154CPM.

There is CPM154

or

154CM

They are the same alloy according to the company. There is some hearsay rumor one contains small fractions of a percent of additional alloy. Some claim it is to improve the steel while others say it is a negligible amount that is actually an "impurity" found in both.

The heat treat will have a much more significant effect than changing between steels. They are the same steel. One is just supposed to have a finer grain from how it is made. The heat treat will do the same thing.

Generally speaking CPM versions of steels are supposed to be more consistent in their makeup because of the process used to make them. Sort of like cake batter mixed with a wooden spoon vs cake batter thoroughly blended, only a whole lot more complex lol.
Anyhow, if you want to read the company spiel and explanation of the process http://www.crucible.com/eselector/general/generalpart3.html

Even you the user will notice a significant difference and see that the CPM154 is better.
