CPM154 vs. S30V?

I own both steel in a couple different knives. Benchmade and Spyderco. First off I really like both steels from both makers. I think s30v does have a longer edge holding ability though. Not by a massive amount but longer nonetheless.

Wasn't aware that either of these companies used CPM154.

I haven't used CPM154 enough yet to really form an opinion. I suspect that we won't see much difference, though. S30V, while a step up, is not a huge improvement over such excellent stainless steels as BG-42 or 154CM/ATS-34 to begin with.
Seems like a small gap to fill.
Will say that I really like CPM154 so far.
I'm not going to be abusing this one, so unless it's accidental, I won't be finding out how well it holds up to damaging use in comparison to similarly profiled S30V. If I get, say, a 4" drop point with a flat grind at a good price, well...I'll give it some negative attention.

You'll notice that S30V holds an edge a bit longer when properly HT'ed. And Benchmade uses 154CM, not CPM154.

I think its about preference... Both are fine with me....
154 just gets a bit sharper for me...?

Never had either rust.... referring to your actual question

So close that in normal use I cant tell a whole lot of difference. I do know CPM154 seems to get more hair splitting sharp for me.

I noticed that after sharpening my BM in 154 on the sharpmaker.. it would whittle and split hairs... :D
