Heard a while back Chris may go 3v for the fixed blades.
I would love to see this.
Anybody know?

I don't know much about 3V. Is it as tough as A2? I know alot of the CPM steels are kind of brittle.

Name one. Bad heattreat doesn't equal bad steel. And yeah, 3V is supposed to be much tougher than A2. Properly heat-treated, of course:p

CPM3V has about the Highest Charpy value going, Charpy index indicates how much impact resistance a steel has and 3V is VERY impressive. Jerry Hossom makes some swords out of it and has high regards for that material, though he may curse while grinding it but still high regards none the less...

I've got 2 customs from Jerry Hossom in CPM3V.

IMHO very good choice for medium/large blades. Edge holding in my experience is better than with A2, though I have nothing but positive impressions about A2 steel used in CRK one piece range. Just CPM3V would make it even better.

The only test I've done to compare toughness of A2 and CPM3V, was chopping some aluminum tubing. Although it was not anything precise. Just made 10 chops with PJ 2, and another 10 Hossom Gator(Recurved blade on the pic). Both handled the job w/o single problem, still shaving after the experiment, however the Gator has thinner edge and blade.

I would love a Hossom blade, either the Gator or Ranger, but he is not taking orders until Jan.
Any for sale out there?
Thanks for your replies
