Not S3V but 3V anyone have any experience with this steel ?Is it harder to sharpen than s3v heard it is Any comments will be appreciated!

AFAIK, there is no S3v, there is CPM 3V steel, or 3v otherwise. May be you mean CPM S30V?
Anyway, CPM 3V is an excellent steel, when the maker knows what he's doing it works very well for small/light cutting blades and large, heavy duty blades.

in the english catra tests it out cut s30 by 35%, has a charpy index rating it tough as hell.
some custom makers use it & ferhman has been using it for several years. i would stay about 58 on the rockwell hardness, for an experienced user you might go to 60r.r.---dennis

Xcellent thanks brothers!Just concerned with field sharpening as I have only been using S30v the stainless version

3V rocks. I prefer it to INFI except for the corrosion resistant properties.

The only experience I have with 3V is in a knife made by Dan Koster. I recently used this knife to cut fiberglass insulation.

I was not impressed with the edge holding capability of this steel for this particular task. It was outperformed by knives with VG10 and M4. I had to sharpen the 3V after every cut.

I have the same Koster. I love the knife for outdoors bushcraft, which it was designed for. Diamonds are the way to do for sharpening. Ceramic rods are no match for this steel.

3V is easier to sharpen than S30V .I find S30V is best handled with a diamond rod. Both are exceptional steels in use , especially 3V as a chopper and S30V as a slicer.Get one of each !
