Have any of you used CPM440V around salt water? Was there a noticeable difference in rust resistance compared to ATS-34?

Hi Frank,
I live on an island surrounded by salt water and have had no problem with my 440v Military and StarMate. I use Tuf-Cloth (not Marine) and that may help but to be honest, I don't care as long as there is no rust.

I don't have a problem with my ATS34 blades either since they get Tuf Clothed too.

Frank - Greg has the right idea. It is a maintenance issue if you live around Salt water. CPM-440V will not resist corrossion any better than ATS-34 in that evironment.

To make Steel provide cutting performance, one must "trade off" by maintainng it.

Cobalt seems to have some nice features in the salt water environment, but it too has it's "trade offs".

Use it hard, but don't put it way wet. Clean and dry with some type of protection. the darn thing cost too much in materials, labor, passion and purchase price to treat it as less than a precision tool. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you.
