I had given him a CQ7B half serrated just before he moved to NYC. This week he heads off to a Yankees game and forgets he is still packing it. The honest guy that he is he stops a police officer there and tells him he accidently brought it in with him and inquires if it is a problem. Thge police officer says yes, so my roommie trys to leave the stadium and stash is at his place or wherever. The gate guy won't let him go and come back, so he heads back to the cop and tells him the story. The cop then takes the knife and says its illegal. My question is way was it illegal?

1. It was in Yankees stadium? More then likely.
2. It was serrated?
3. It was waved.
4. I set is up so that the slightest flick of the wrist would open it up.

Any ideas?

Hi Edsal, welcome to BF. No, that knife is not illegal in NYC. Under 4" folder is ok. The truth be known, the cop probably doesn't know what's legal or not. What your friend should have done is ask the policeman for a receipt, if he said no, I would make sure he saw me write down his badge number and name(in a respectful way, of course). As soon as the game was over I'd head to the police station he was from and talk to the desk sargeant.
Next time he's in a situation like that he should just unclip it from his pocket and let if ride in the bottom of pocket. Right about now everybody around here is a little edgy, so that may explain the officer's actions. Although I've met quite a few in NY/NJ who actually dont know the knife laws.

I dont carry any knife clipped to my pocket anymore. I stopped about a year ago, when I realized everyone and his brother knows exactly what is clipped to your pocket. my CQC7B I carry it inside the waist band about 2 inches to the right of my fly zipper. When I got my new 722 mel pardue benchmade (what a waste of money i could have bought a commander instead) i carried it IWB above my rear wallet pocket.

Thanks for the info guys.
Seems like being honest and straight forward doesn't do you any good these days. At least my roommie is going to get me a new one to replace the one he lost, and one for himself:D

I agree about the clip though execpt for waved knives. I always see another knife toter a mile away if he has it clipped.

Hmmmm
Maybe I can convince him he wants a SOFKB instead a CQ7:rolleyes:
