CQC-11 not what I thought

Got an Emerson CQC-11 - not as pleased as I thought I would be. Seemed to have a little play in the blade. It rocked pretty hard. Also, when it's closed I find that it's grinding on the liner. Even though I've tightened it up it's still a problem. The blade is pretty nice. Lent it to a friend (without a "it's really sharp" warning) and he sliced himself to the bone. However, for a $200 knife I find this to be a problem.. No Spyderco or Cold Steel knife has done this to me. Considering those knives are a fraction the price it urks me a little. Anyone else have this problem?

probably needs adjustment, send it to EKI & they'll fix it up.

some bad ones/ones needing adjustment do get out from EKI, just like evrybody else, i've seen knives from virtually everyone at every price do the same thing.

Just take it all apart and clean it up really well, lube the pivot and put a tiny bit of blue loctite or nail polish on the pivot screw. Put everything back together and snug the handle screws down first and then the pivot screw with the blade locked open. I'll usually tighten the rear and front handle screws first and then the center screw. Then close the knife and work the blade open and closed a few times. Check position of the blade closed and the when open in relation to how the liner lock hits the tang and adjust the tension accordingly. I have had EKI's identical to what you are describing and by doing the above it usually solves the problem. I think the 11 is probably the best kept secret of the EKI line. It is big and ferocious with great handle ego's. To me the 11 and the 7 are the knives to own of the EKI line. keepem sharp

Well, I shot an email off to Emerson and received a reply from Mr. Emerson himself. I was pleased to see he does what he says he will....and takes a personal personal interest in making sure I was happy. Think I'll send it in so they can't tell me I screwed it up... :)

Sure is a hell of a knife though. I loved it the minute I took it outta the box. And I am a fan of the 7's...and the Commander.

I need to get my CQC 11 in gear though. I'm taking it to the "proving grounds" in September...Iraq!

Last deployment, my blade of choice was a Camillus Heat...and a Voyager. I've certainly upgraded.

pauldurivage, thank you for your service. stay safe in Iraq and if you get a chance let us know how your knife performs. I'm glad to hear that emerson takes care of their customers.

Glad to hear another great story of Mr. Emerson staying close to the people who matter, the customer.

One of, if not the, greatest knife manufacturers around.

I am having a similar problem with my CQC-14 Snubby. It is my 1st and only Emerson knife...so far. With all of the praise that Emersons get I am guessing that mine is one of the few that needs a little extra factory attention. I think I'll give them a call too.

That's great to hear pauldurivage .

I bet you got the special treatment since you are active ;). Thank you for serving and stay safe over there.

Like the other guys said, be sure to tell us how the knife holds up.
