Looking to buy my first Emerson soon, been wanting one for a while. I really like a bowie style blade and am having a difficult time choosing between the 13 and 16. For those of you that have handled or own both, let me know how they compare. Or if you only have one of the two, tell me about it. I am not just looking to add one to my knife collection. If I like it as much as I think I will, it will likely be used hard as a hunting and general outdoor knife. I really like Benchmade's 154 CM, how does Emerson's heat treat compare?
Thanks for any advice/assistance you guys can provide.

I've got a La Griffe, Raven, Commander, and CQC-12. I like variety. :)

The CQC-16 is kind of on my list. I really like the blade, and the handle is like the Commander which I know works real well for me. For what you need, I think it's a winner.

The steel on his knives has never let me down, including some hard slashing.

I prefer the 13's blade shape. I think Emersons 154 CM is far better than benchamdes. Just my 00.2

I dont think this is true. The 13 is more a pure fighting knife whereas the 16 was designed expressly for the hunting fraternity and their needs are quite different etc.

From EKI's website: Over the years we have been constantly asked, “What about a hunting knife?” Well, finally I decided to do one. This knife was designed by my life long friend Brian B. He is one of the World’s premier big game hunters. That’s no exaggeration. He held the record for World’s largest lion for several years. He always used Commanders on his hunts but wanted a more “Specialized” blade for cleaning and skinning. He has used the CQC-16 Prototypes in Africa, Alaska, Montana and the Midwest on everything from Cape Buffalo to White Tailed Deer and it has performed as it should, every time. Now we bring this performance to you as the CQC-16 Emerson Hunting Folder. Comes in both plain edge and serratted and satin or black finish.

I have both; pretty much the same thing. Either will serve you well.

Regardless of the propaganda and sales pitch, I have both. They're pretty much the same. Either will serve you well.

i agree, 6 of 1 half dozen of another, personally, if it was me, i would try something else vs most any EKI for skinning game, though i have no doubt they would work just fine for that imho theres better stuff around for that application, that said a bud has skinned a lotta deer with his old '99 commander with good results.

as far as productions go the '13 is one of my favs, that and the '12.

I've owned a 13 and handled a 16. i would say for outdoor activities the 16 would be your best bet.
