I haven't seen much on the CQC-13, bowie knife.

Any negatives from this design? I wouldn't be using it for hunting, and hopefully never self defence, but wanted a larger Emerson (have a mini-7b now and love how solid it feels).

Thanks.

I know SIFU1A has a custom 13 and he seems pretty happy with it.

I had a production 13 a while back but just didnt click with it.
It was a knice knife, good blade size and shape, nice handle ergos and generally a nice mean looking knife.
I had just picked up the 12 when I got the 13 though so it kind of just went right to the back of the box :)

The 13 shape looks a bit like the 12. Do you think the 13's shape, near the tip, is quite weak, or still quite strong?

Can't tell, haven't seen one in person. Thanks again.

The 13 blade is more up swept than the 12 but they are indeed quite similar.
The tip in the 13 IMO is just as strong as the 12 but does seem a bit more pointed because of the sweep.

There is no swedge on the 13 either so the point is still pretty robust.
I would have no worries about it. just treat is that same as any other knife point.

haze is correct, i do have a custom '13 and like it a lot, and recently got a production '13 too, which i like but not as much as the custom of course, but its a good one, its pretty close to the '12 as far as the blade goes, handle shape is quite a bit different though, and no frame lock of course, but i suppose the '13 is a pretty good poor mans '12 in most areas, imho the '13 is one of the better ones in the EKI line, mostly due to the blade shape and grind.

I just opened up the package, Satin, Plain Edge, CQC-13 Bowie.

It really is a beautiful knife. Handle is surprisingly not much longer than the mini-cqc-7 but fits in the hand so nicely. I guess the extra inch and the curves really make the difference.

Blade has a great shape to it, looks a lot like the cqc-12 shape, just that little extra upswing near the tip. Like Haze said, the tip is very stout.

Funny, for being quite a large knife, it all looks quite compact, must be the proportions.

Lockup is very solid - but was expected, I asked Jay at warriorsandwonders to look it over. No movement when opened.

Blade doesn't move at all from side to side when closed, and opens really smoothly. Didn't even lube it up yet.

Overall very happy, thanks for the advice, helps when you can't see the knife in person.

I handled one of these earlier this week, and the handle is fantastic. Nice blade shape also. I might have to pick one up.

I just ordered a 13. I really like the blade shape and I just like Emerson knives. I am looking forward to playing with it.

The 13 is my second favourite Emerson. Every time I carry I wonder why I own more than one knife.
