A friend of mine just sent me a 14. Definitely has the best ergos I've ever felt on an Emerson. It's an interesting blade for sure, I keep looking at it and keep thinking the blade is off but then I remember the design philosophy on it. It kicked my 7 out of my pocket today and will be riding with me tomorrow. Anyone else have a 14?

i have one, and its also one of my favorites. i tend to like bigger blades, but i also feel that its one of the best feeling emersons in my hand and so i carry it more often than the others. its a great design and makes a great edc. the short blade with the full size handle really works well. i have a black one from 2008, the g10 scales were perfect that year. not too rough like the current models. im ready to buy a second one soon in satin, im just sad that they dont come with backspacers now. i love the way the black backspacer looks on my cqc14.

Ive thought about getting one for travel. I don't travel that much but its a reliable blade you can bring nearly everywhere legally. I almost picked one up to take with me to Vegas for G6 but I decided to save my money for the show. Maybe one of these days Ill have the spare change lying around to pick one up.

That's why I bought one. I don't carry it much as I don't travel much, but it's nice having the option.

I can see the 14 if you live in some Nazi Run State with goofy laws, but honestly the SEVEN is the same sized grip, or handle . So for me a no brainier would be the "7". Just expressing my idea, as I know some places have laws prohibiting blade over 3" carried by law abiding folks. Criminals don't okay the law to protect us from them, so what good do these laws really do. Victimize honest hard work law abiding people.

Pennypincher, I live in a state where there are no limits on knives as long as they aren't autos. I agree with you on all accounts though. Rolf, I agree but lately the Zealot has been fighting the 7 for pocket time and now the 14 is kicking both out for the time being. However, the work knife for me is my 15, it rides in my tool pocket when I'm on the roof.

I have one. I have always thought if you needed a shorter blade for whatever reason (legal, functional, whatever) it should still have a normal sized handle. There are not many out there that do (the spyderco delica/kahr is the only other one I have). So I picked up a 14. I agree with Akapp that if there is no compelling reason to have a shorter blade, something else might be more versatile, but for those times when I don't want to have a longer stretch of steel, the 14 is great! The main use I have made of it so far is when I'm working dogs and might need to cut a rope or webbing/harness when a dog might be close by.

The 14 is another Emerson that I have been looking at, looks like it would make a great utility knife.

I have always looked at this model. I think it's a great idea/design. I like how the handle is similar to the P.U.K. fixed blade as if the 2 were meant to be paired up.

the handle on the 14 feels way better than the 7.

I have 2 14s, one BT Serrated and one SW Plain. I have carried the BT a few times when traveling and it is a great design. The handle is the same as the PUK and for me is second only to the CQC-13. I agree that laws that limit blade length are pure BS but when I travel it is usually for work and prefer to stay legal, especially when working in the field directly with a client.
