Any clue as to when in the heck this things keeps rusting? I oil it constantly and it dosent seem to make a difference. Rust appears on the blade and near the thumb stud, also alongs the side of the blade.

all of my satin emersons have rusted on me as well, I work a very physical job and sweat like crazy and at the end of the shift when i empty my pockets there will be a slight coat of rust on the blade, I tried tuff glide to prevent it and it didn't help still had surface rust, so I ended up selling my satin emersons and replacing them with the same models only this time the ones with black coating on the blade.

This is why I wish ALL models were available with the black finish. My only satin blade is my Super Roadhouse because it is unavailable black.

Thanks to the Desert Super Roadhouse specials though I have just replaced it.

I think it's kind of silly for something marketed as a hard use blade and with the price tag they fetch. I guess I just assumed that they were coated or something in order to extend the life of the blade. I haven't had mine for a year yet and Im getting this issue...kind of stupid I think.

It sounds like you need something more than just an oil. I like CLP since all the tests that I have seen have shown it to be very good at stopping rust and because it stays on items longer than a normal oil would.

Steel can rust, welcome to steel.

hello all,
don't laugh but i've always had good luck with just common car wax. not in a jungle environment anymore but seems to work real good for me. try it. it may work good for you too. take care.

I have mostly satin blades, and my black blades have been modded so they are 2 tone. I've never had rust at all, and I inside the waist band carry often.

Wax or CLP alot of guys like frog lube as of late and it can be had in a "grease" that I understand is just a thicker version of their "oil" it is enviro friendly and might stay on even in really balmy pockets.

Just curious, have you had this rust issue with other knives that are
Not Emersons?

I have tons of satin Emersons and have not had any rust issues, although, in general I don't have rust problems with any of my stainless blades, as long as I take care of them and store them properly. I have heard that some people's body chemistry/sweat just makes their knives rust more than other peoples, I think the BT coated blades may be better for you.

I never had a satin finish Emerson rust on me, and I live in a very high humidity environment. My knives would sit in a drawer for long periods and mold would grow on the G-10 but the blades never rusted. Sounds weird to me...

This might sound strange but, your body chemistry can contribute to accelerated oxidation/corrosion. If you have a higly acidic pH then you might be in for a rough time with some types of steel. All the satin finished Emersons are wiped with Tufcloth from what I understand. The fact that your knife has some corrosion has nothing to do with the ability of the knife to perform it's intended functions. What you might also consider doing is using some renwax or carnuba wax on the blade after you clean it. Good luck.

I live in florida so this worrys me as well. I keep a lot of oil on my blades and so far so good.

Never had this happen with another knife. I found it weird, especially since Im so anal about keeping my gear oiled and well maintained. I think I might retire this blade for a bit (just picked up a paramilitary 2) while I consider the possiblities of purchasing another emerson. If I do, I'll get a satin finish Commander and see how that goes. Thanks to those with productive resposes.

Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after using it. If it rusts in your pocket think about getting a belt sheath.

Weird, 154CM is supposed to be pretty resilient to rust compared to most other steels. Do you live in a humid environment/area?
