I bought a CQC-15 mini yesterday, its a 2010 version from a local collector and its AWESOME! I had my heart set on a stonewashed finish, but I had to settle for a BTS. Should I mod it and Tom Krein it? Would modding the blade void the warranty? It probably will but I wanted to make sure from you guys. Thanks for the Advice my fellow Emerson uses. Over'n Out

It would look EXACTLY like this

if you want the stonewashed, i'd sell it. i wouldnt krein it yet as i have a mini cqc-15 from this year as well and my lock went south real quick.

a regrind would void the warranty and if im buying a new knife, i want the warranty in tact for as long as possible.

that said, i just got a mini cqc-8 that im debating having kreined.

oh man thats not good, are you gonna send it back for a new lock? although the krein grind looks mean!

yeah, im sending it in a few days, i wanted to get a replacement emerson in first so i wouldn't be without one while it was getting fixed. the krein zero grind looks like it would cut like a laser, so the real solution is to buy two and have options!

I thought that Tom Krein announced that he was no longer doing regrinds....................or did I hear that wrong?

At least not for the near future. He said he may do them again, after he gets his folders going.

I've got a regrind CQC-15 that Tom Krein did. Very nice work, and an improvement on the factory profile, I think. I didn't care for the tanto edge, and his regrind creates a gentle recurve, along with a proper blade grind, that came out very nicely.

I don't plan on using the warranty anyway, but I do plan on using the knife.

I too am looking at purchasing the mini CQC-15 but can't decide whether I should buy the Stonewash plain edge or combo edge.

Any thoughts on which one? My plan is to use this knife in the field where I will be cutting many different type of things, cord and such. So I'm favoring the combo edge in Stonewash finish.

stonewashed is nicer. Tom announced he wasn't doing regrinds. Rossi knives is doing regrinds. double zero grind is too weak for the edge - I chipped mine cutting down on hardwood.

for this model, I actually like the tanto point as a scraper, what I'd like to mod is the angular 'guard'.

Oh man I hate to hijack this thread but how long did it take for that lock to end up like that??

I would love a stonewashed combo edge, i currently carry a mini cqc 7 combo edge and i love it, living in CA people hate knives here so i gotta keep it a legal 2.9in blade to be safe lol

Nick Rossi does excellent work. I sent a PT CC to him and it's stunning and lightsaber sharp. Send it off to him.

State law has no limit on length though. But sheeple-run places like LA/LA County and San Francisco have limits.

that is true, there is no state law but every county has a blade length law which is stupid. some laws are retarded
