Which would make for a better fighting knife, based on the inherent characteristics of blade and handle shape? Would one prove more effective in slashing/stabbing than the other?

I would personally go for the commander although niether would be my first choice.

The commander handle is a versitile design and is good for a nice range of grips.
The blade shape and the slight negative angle make it nice for slashing and also utility work.
The grind on the commanders gives it a nice strong point although some do seem to have a more
uniform even bevel leading up to the point than others.

The 15 is a nice knife and although I personally don't like the blade I can see why people do like it
and the handle shape is comfortable but not quite the same as the Commies. IMO the 15 would still
be a good choice not quite the knive a commander is.

I like them both and find the CQC-15 very appealing. Both require a learning curve to sharpen properly. The CQC-8 and CQC-13 might prove to be better "fighting" knives.

I am an Emerson karambit person myself but own the CQC-8, mini Commander, and mini CQC-15 as well.

The 8 is a way better choice than the Commander IMO but of the two mentioned by the OP it would be the Commy.

My #1 choice would clearly be the Persian but you all knew that any way :p:thumbup:

I have a Commander and a mini-Comm, but just based on the photos I've seen of the 15, I'd probably choose a mini-15. I haven't personally found the Commander's blade design all that comfortable to use. The handle is great, though. I like the look of the 15, and it *looks* like it might have a thinner cutting edge(?).

I'm wearing a Commander right now; it's my personal folder for Iraq. I have a CQC-15 at home which is my daily carry. My commander replaces a mini commander that followed me everywhere for years, but disappeared not long ago in country. I'm quite pleased with both the commander at the CQC-15.

I have both the CQC-15, and Commander (and mini-commander). I'm quite pleased with both styles. Without doubt, I'll by at least another of each.

the commander was designed to slash, the 15 is a stabber, its the handle style, in this case, that lends one to being "fighter" than the other. IMO the commander's grip shape is more user friendly in terms grip posistion, and is easier/faster to change to reverse grip. Just my $.02, its really a matter of personal taste, I'd rather go with an 8, 13, or 14.

CQC8 is a wicked ass fighting knife.

The handle is very secure, has a great built-in guard and it works in both forward and reverse positions.

It is also very effective in the closed position as an impact weapon.

It is also a LOT easier to get silly sharp than the Commander. Havent had a 15 so can't comment on that one.
