from what ive heard, bm has thicker liners. however emersons have the wave and tip up carry. should i base my choice on these issues alone?
-anyone know of a better designed tanto in this range? -What about the sog vision?

The BM CQC-7 is a classic, though discontinued. Plain and simple. If tanto's are your thing, I'd get either a modern EKI (if I couldn't find a good BM), or the Buck Strider tanto. I carry 1-2 EKI CQC7s every day and I love them, but some people don't. They sharpen (when you get the hang of it- and no, its not that hard) up very quickly and cut very well. Its good, just different. If you don't want chisel grind, the Strider-Buck is a good option.

One thing I'd consider is that BM hasn't made these for a long time, and I've heard that they can't reapir or supply parts for many of the older models.

I've got a combo-edge BM CQC7 that's going back to the factory for maintenance. I'll let you know if they have any problems.

I have a BM 975S (Super CQC-7) that I really need to send back, too. One of the screws dropped out of the liner and won't thread in any more. Probably every day I wait is reducing my chances of getting it fixed.

what ever you do dont get the sog . the eki s are great . specialy the wave on em.

A Stryker replaced the BM CQC-7 as my edc. The handle on the stryker was just more comfortable to me. And the blade is mean!

I sent in my CQC-7 last year with no problems getting it up to speed.

Also consider the EKI HD-7---a kind of CQC7 on steroids. Combination scales of G-10 and Ti. It's also in current production. Framelock construction. A bit pricey though.:)

I had a couple of BM 975's serviced by Benchmade about 6 months ago, they drilled the liners to accept the screws. The knives are good as new now

Well, what do you know, I just looked in my folder knife drawer and found 2 of the old BM CQC-7's, one has a long blade and the other has the short version. The longer one still looks like it's never be used but I do remember using the short one and its still razor sharp..both are marked as ATS-34 and have the Emerson logo with design under it.
Both of mine feel solid as a rock and I don't forsee ever having to send them back to BM.

Ciao,
Ron Cassel
