CQC-7 Cleaning

I have a CQC-7 that is getting pretty gritty inside around the locking mechanisim. How difficult is it to take the knife apart and successfully put it back together? What I'm concerned about is getting the lock back in place correctly.

TIA,

David

I've taken several EKI knives apart . . . and even got them back together again. Obviously it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist.

Your going to have no problem with the lock, just keep track of those tiny screws and where the washers go.

Try not to booger your screws.

I usually do not take mine apart. I just use an air chuck on my air compressor and get most of the mess out.

Go to your local auto parts store and by a can of brake cleaner and blast it clean with that. Wait for it to evaporate, relubricate it, and you're good to go.

I just took my waved CQC-7 apart last night and oiled up the pivot, cleaned out whatever lube was in there from the factory, and checked out the "secondary detent" that is on the 2000 models. Easy to put back together, but you have to watch the position the lock is in when you slap it back together. First time I tried, the lock was too far over and would not disengage. An easy fix however.

I always take all of mine apart just as I get them, clean them all out and reassemble them, cleaning them with Tuff-Cloth and lubricating with White Lightning !

Works a treat !
