I'm trying to sharpen my other CQC-7 and I can't seem to get it right. My other one is great, but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I have a Lansky sharpener (comes with a pair of medium ceramic rods and a wooden base).

Does anyone know what angles the grinds are on a flat ground cqc-7?

357---I use water stones and draw backwards. Then buff the burr off. I know this won't help you, I don't think, but I'm sure you will get some advice soon. Good luck!

357---Don't get frustrated and mess the knife up. I've done That! Maybe call Emerson tomorrow.

How dull is the knife ?

If its still got a bit of an edge and just needs touched up a lansky will be fine.
I find things like the Lanskys are good for keeping a knife sharp rather than actuall sharpening.

If its actually dull and needs sharpened "Big L" has the right idea. You will need to go to the stones or something that can remove more material to reform the edge, then go to a lansky to clean the edge up and give it a stop to get it singing

imho ya should go to the EKI site and see how they say to sharpen it, get the right stones and such, and learn to do it free hand, systems like the lansky and sharpmaker just dont work well with EKI's, though i love my sharpmaker and use it a lot its not the best way to sharpen an EKI, though it will work to me its the long way around the barn and seems to make it more complicated than need be becuase the angles arent right.

I presumed he was using a Lansky ceramic stick sharpener like you see on the EKI site. Those are fine for an edge touch up not the full sharpening system :foot:

I should read more carfully !

Free hand is indeed the way forward

The CQC7B is quite easy to sharpen on stones due to the tanto grind. And if you're a righthander, even easier. Just tape up the sides of the blade, exposing only the edge bevel, and put it on stones.

If you want a really good professional job, send it to EKI. Lately their sharpening is fantastic. Super sharp with "bite".

If you are feeling adventurous and have $50 to spare, send it for a Krein Regrind.

Lycosa will tell you how great a zero ground 7B blade can be.

Haze and Spyken---Thanks. 357--- That is a good Idea, about Tom Krein. Once Tom regrinds a blade, you are in heaven will the cutting capabilities of that blade. Think about what Spyken said. I would do it.

The Lansky will work fine even if the knife is dull. I can get a 7b sharp as hell with one. Just have to be careful to follow the original edge is all. Might take a bit of manipulation with the vise but once you get it right it will sharpen it like no tomorrow. keepem sharp

PS build up a burr on the back side and then turn the knife over and go to the lowest setting or the second lowest setting and hit the burr at most 2x. Repeat a couple of time back and forth with light pressure and then strop the edge on your jeans or a tablet or piece of newspritnt etc.
