Hi Knife Knuts,
I love the chisel grind because I understand it. I wish Emerson would do a kata-kira-ba style blade on the 7 or HD. This power-bar zero grind would be easy to sharpen because you'd only have to deal with a 1/4 or 3/8 inch primary edge. Contact Ernie and tell him. Give me some in-put.

Please explain the "kata-kira-ba style blade" to a Emerson Newbe. I saw some pics of full ground chisel blades and I think they are very cool.

Its sometimes called an "apple seed" grind because the blade cross section looks like an apple seed, i also believe its called a Hamaguri-ba. but I could be wrong ?

imho the std chisel grind or the zero bevel grind work just fine, no reason to change things, i would be a lot more interested in a std "v" grind.

Also known as a convex grind.

My tanto Sebenza has the usual Chris Reeve hollow grind for the long edge and a convex forward edge.

Hi Knife Knife Nuts,
The kata-kira-ba is a shallow 3\8 or 1\4 inch primary edge that can be done in a chisel or traditional grind. IT is strong, sharp and easy to sharpen. The beauty of this blade lies in it's simplicity. Plus it is inexpensive to manufacture. Tell Ernie you want one!

what advantage would it have over a std CG or "V" grind??

they also are strong, sharp and easy to sharpen so whats the reason for me to jump on the kata-kira-ba bandwagon much less for ernie to??

if its like on the old spyderco lum tantos i suppose they are "ok" nothing to write home to mom about imho, i would probably prefer a std "V" grind myself.

The zero- grind is the sharpest edge out there. Years ago I purchased a Hartsfield kwaiken. This knife has been the best cutting knife I have ever owned-Period. Most knives have a secondary primary edge and that defeats the purpose of a true chisel- grind. Hartsfield told me that he likes the CQC-7 but it was'nt done right. I just think that this would give Emerson a true traditional style blade in his folder line. That blade would speak for It's self. Thanks.

so are you saying the grind ya are talking of is a zero bevel grind??

i have a couple of emerson customs with ZBG, i dont think he will ever make a std production with that grind, the ECA P-tac is a ZBG and the only thing near a production that has that grind, IIRC they made 120 or so of them.

SIFU1A,
Can you get me some pics? I think a zero-grind HD-7 was on the cover of an Emerson catalog. Thanks. OUT. Lycosa
