CQC-7 lock disengages?

Hey Emerson dudes! Just a quick question from an Emerson "noob" haha. I picked up a CQC-7 a little while back and I'm really loving it! I've actually found the chisel grind quite useful. However, I have found it very easy to disengage the liner lock accidentally. Even in different grips if I apply much hand pressure it seems to disengage it slightly. Sometimes to the point where I can grab the blade and fold it open and closed. I still really like the knife, just curious if anyone has shared this experience? Maybe I just have fat hands haha! Any comments are appreciated, thanks!

Send it in to warranty. Not supposed to do that. They'll fix it in a timely fashion

I had the same problem with a brand new Mini A100, the lock would just slip off the tang. I sent it in and it was fixed for free under the Emerson warranty service. It took about a month to get it back, but now the lockup is solid. It looks like they replaced the entire lock-side liner.

Well then, off to warranty it goes I guess. Been looking at the A100 as well as the Journeyman, maybe I'll have to pick one up to keep me company while it's gone. :D Thanks for the info!

If you're referring to your hand gripping the handle in a way that it's squeezing the lock bar to make the blade close, a warranty repair isn't going to help.

It's common to inadvertently release the lock with different grips, knives, uses, or people.

Because the CQC7 has a liner lock and not a frame lock pressure on the lockbar is unlikely to cause the lock to disengage. On my A100 before it was repaired any movement was enough to at least partially disengage the lock–whether through use or handling.

I too had that problem with my mini A100.

Sometimes if lube migrated onto the lock face or dirty lockface can cause it to slip . Clean it with rubbing alcohol

My Horseman would slip and fold with light pressure on the thumb-ramp. I kept using it, hoping the lock would wear in and settle deeper, but the problem persisted.

By the time I finally took it apart, I noticed the lockbar had worn a small wedge in the titanium (I should have taken some pics) which suggests the tang and lock had not been mating properly. I thought for sure that I'd have to send it in for warranty work (kind of a hassle I'd rather not deal with because Canadian Customs can be finicky where one-handers are concerned.) Instead, I cleaned & lubed the parts, and took my time reassembling the knife making sure everything was seated correctly...

Boom, no more lock-slip.

Moral of the story: don't wait for the lock to 'settle' or you risk further deforming the ti lockbar face. Take that sucker apart and put it back together properly--a slight adjustment can make a big difference. Worst case scenario is you're back to square one and have to send it back to EKI anyway.

Good luck, OP! :)
