CQC-7 opening methods

I recently acquired a CQC-7 Tanto with Wave. The deciding factors were the blade profile, the wave feature, and the blade length, which is under the Colorado statutory limit of 3.5 inches for concealed carry.

The wave opening is really nice, and could not logically be called a switchblade mechanism, since there's no spring or release button.

I just noticed that it can be held fully closed in the hand and opened easily by a flick of the wrist. I would think this knife would be illegal wherever the local law prohibits knives that can be "opened by centrifugal force". This appears to be a common element of several different knife laws I have been reading lately. This will not stop me from carrying it, because I keep it concealed, don't wave it around in public, and never attract the attention of LEOs, but it does seem technically illegal.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

if you tighten the pivot screw, you can avoid your concerns all together. mine are tightened so they cannot be flicked open like you mention, as i do not want the blade to open partially while in my pocket. but not so tight that it is difficult to open, with the wave or not. i also dont like the blade to have any lateral 'wiggle'.

Good advice, thanks! It's so new I hadn't yet thought about making adjustments. I will experiment with different degrees of tightness on the pivot screw.

Go easy on the adjusting screw! That thin slot gets buggered real easy. I find a good twist with my fingernail works just fine.

I have A super 7cqc and the blade likes to open up when coming out of my pocket sometimes. I really like the knife but the wave feature I could do without.

:D I just spent the green for a waveless commander. It's my favorite now...money well spent. I think the wave should be a feature you can request. I carry the knife in the sap pocket so the wave did me no good...it even opened unexpectedly once, cut my finger and ruined my pants. I love the emersons without waves, and those are all I carry anymore.

really most of the emersons i carry dont have waves (ie a custom CQC8, custom CQC6,ECA P-Tac, I&I tanto, all non waved) so i got used to not having it, i am enjoying my waved '12 now though, really like that 1 FWIW,

If being able to wrist flick a knife open qualifies it as a switchblade then half of the folders made by Emerson, Benchmade, Spyderco, Strider ect. ect. are switchblades.

I think if you take all the "tactical folders" out there, its more likely than not that you can do this.

It depends on the person a lot too. I know that I can do this with a lot of knives that other people can't do it with, just because I am a dork and have sat and practiced it umpteen million times.

i too can inertia open most any modern style knife if the pivot isnt tightened .........
