CQC-7 or HD-7 ?

Hi, Knife Knuts,
When Emerson designed the HD-7 wouldn't it have made more sense to evolve the CQC-7 into that knife? I like the HD, but it is not a CQC-7. I also think s30v would have been a step-up to a better steel than 154-cm. Any comments?
Thanks.

I think Emerson doesn't like to just remake a knife. He did the same thing when he put the wave on the CQC-8 the blade grind was changed (new one does not have a false edge) As far as the blade steel goes why change something that works. 154-CM, ATS-34, S30V The difference is really small and you will never notice it in normal use.

I agree that the difference is small, But the cutting edge steel perception is not.

ATS-34 was hot then 154-CM then BG-42 then S30V now ZDP-189.

If other manufacturers are offering "newer higher tech" materials at a competetive price....

that being said I own and carry several Emersons

IMHO Just because something works does not mean it should not be improved

i like the '12 a lot better than the HD7.

154CM is a good steel but i too agree S30V or something wouldnt be a bad idea.

I don't know I must be in the minority here. I like ats34 and 154cm better than S30v. I find it doesn't chip as easy. I also don't think paying x amount more for a steel when the other steel are good steels makes sense. I'll also put a plug in for high carbon steels too. I seem to be able get 01 sharper or to a percieved sharpness better than any s.s. I have ever used. I think EKI has it right when they heat treat there 154 too. If it ain't broke don't fix it I say. keepem sharp

PS as for EKI's I am kind of partial to the SOFCK line and the Commander line now. I carried a 7 variant for years too. Not an HD mind you. Didn't like the 8 at all. Now the 11 that is a sleeper of an EKI if you ask me. Great design, nice blade shape for edc although it may be a little big. It is a big ass knife that doesn't seem to get much press but trust me with the dropped point, recurved blade and nice point on it, it does alot of things very well. keepem sharp
