I am just now learning about tactical folding knives in general. I have heard people post good things about these knives. Are these one of the "classic" tactical folding knives around. If you had to name a must have tactical folder what would it be. Are there people of certain professions that use tactical folders and would a CQC 7b be one of them?

Where have you been?? lol. The CQC-7 started it all. That was over 10 years ago and this folder can still be ranked among the Best. The HD-7 incorporates the frame lock, which is a thicker locking bar than the liner lock. There are several Top tactical folders available today and give them the once-over and remember, the CQC-7 is one of them.

I've had dozens of very good quality tactical folders. I've sold most of them off and this is the one that remains. That should say it all.

I love the CQC-7 design, it just works for me. The CQC-7 feels great in my hand, and the blade length is big enough without being too big. I carried a Benchmade CQC-7, then a EKI CQC-7B while in the Army & they worked great. My current favorite & EDC is the HD-7.

Now realize, the Emerson CQC-7 takes a bit of an adjustment from other knives. The chisel grind is a bit different to sharpen compared to traditional knives. Also Emerson uses 154 CM steel, so if you are a steel junky, you might not be happy.

That said, even though I can't get it as sharp as my traditional knives, I get it sharp enough. I also like 154 CM steel & got tired of all the steel hype. Most times the added cost of the newer steel was not worth the gain to me.

Halfneck---Let Tom Krein do your "7." You'll thank me! It's mt sharpest folder.

Do you like the CQC 7B or 7A. I kind of like the look of the 7B. But then there are even other subgroups for the 7B. Which one? Did they really start the whole tactical genre?

Chooy--You talk'n to me? I like them both but I bought the HD-7. This folder is for "serious" carry. If I want a utility blade, it would be the V grind, the "A." Emerson did start the tactical movement with the CQC-7 but some might disagree. Emerson makes a great knife.

What do you mean by "serious"carry? I'm talking to you Lycosa! But origginally I was tlaking to whomever

Chooy---Serious means SP, self protection. What will you use your knife for? Then I'll mention the other tacticals. OK?

The 7b is a great knife but i have been growing less fond of tanto blades of late.
The 7a is IMO a better knife. I only have one compaired to my many 7b's but its a nicer looking knife than the tanto and just works better for me.
I wish i had never used it now as 7a's are getting harder to find.
But you should really get a HD-7 or a 12 !!! they are the pick of the bunch for sure. ;)

Use? How about two categories:
1. Self protection - tacticals
2. Utility/self-protection - tacticals

Chooy---The sky is the limit but here is are the top contenders: Emerson, Strider, Kershaw, CRK Sebenza. These companies will offer an array of choices for a folder for your needs. I hear excellent, consistent reports from the users of these knife companies that I mentioned but there are many more companies to investigate. Post what you decide to get.

For edc/s.d. any of the EKI's but mainly the 7 series, 13, or 11. Customs I would pick a Jones Brother Responder absolutely first rate knife, Les Adams tac folder, a custom that is a great bang for the buck spent, a Rijbak, Wilson Combat Elite, CS again like EKI any number of them, I like the Voygaers or the Hatamoto and less not forget the original MT series SOCOM's. 97-99 years. keepem sharp

I'm pretty new to Emersons, but in about four weeks I've acquired a "restored" 2000 Commander, a La Griffe, two 7's, and I have an "A" bladed SOCFK on the way. It's the waved 7 that I wind up carrying the most.

The Wave is one of the best inventions for a folder. At first, I did not want one on my CQC-7. Boy, did I change my mind. Congrats on your Emersons!
