Picked up a CQC-7A a week ago. I did my research, read the reviews, etc. The knife was "stiff", to say the least. I kept opening and closing it, as most everyone says they need a "break-in". Yesterday, It was feeling really gritty...then started sqeaking. I took the pivot screw-side scale off, wiped it down, and made sure there wasn't anything binding.

I put a couple of small spots of Frog Lube on it, and reassembled. Wow! What a difference. Feels like a new knife. Thanks to everyone who gave the advice about just wiping 'em down.

I have a Micro Commander on the way...

That's great! CQC-7A is a fine knife. The squeaking was probably from the secondary detent ball that is responsible for keeping the knife closed. A few drops of lube is always a great idea. Been meaning to get some Froglube myself. Have my CQC-7AW with me today.

I just got a Mini Cq7A, a Micro Commander and a Mini A 100 and I am quite impressed! The workmanship is excellent and all knives are razor sharp! Can't wait to put them to use. The G10 texture is just right not to rough not to smooth feels great in the hand. I guess I need another Emerson.

I just realized I wrote "Feels like a new knife". It IS a new knife! I guess I meant 100% better.

Great choice & congrats. All Emersons's get better with age.

All of the above.
You need a 7B.

I'm not big on Tanto blades...Aesthetics, mainly.

A little update on my original post: Yesterday, the knife got that "gritty" feeling again, then got squeaky. I took the scale and liner off. Nothing appeared wrong, the film of Frog Lube was still there. I put a VERY small drop of lube on the detent balls...both of them. Could it get any better? Seriously, this thing is awesome! The blade is still perfectly centered, and the pivot screw is at almost the same spot as it was out of the box. My Micro Commander will be here, today...:) It will get wiped off and the same trick used, if needed.

It will break in, but I don't know if my thumb would last that long!

Your thumb will be just fine. Once the liners and the blade have some wear along the surfaces that the washers and detents contact, it'll be smooth as glass. It will probably happen suddenly after a clean/lube job too as some of mine have.

Congrats, the '7A is a great knife.

Serrated or plain edge? Waved or not?

I'm about to order a CQC-7A, non-waved with standoffs, to see if I like the standoffs or backspacer more on this model.

rayster357: It did happen suddenly, that's for sure. And I'm not complaining!

Matthew SB: Satin, Plain edge. Non-waved with standoffs.

Thats great to hear your review man. Mine is stiff but slowly breaking in. Im opening and closing it a lot. Im going to order some Frog Lube Solvent and Clp. Thanks for the tips!

Dustinhxc,

I like mine to be smooth opening, so I find myself taking it apart probably every week or so. I should probably just let it "break in", but no matter how much I open and close it...it still gets "gritty" feeling. Yesterday, I put some Frog Lube on the inside of the washers, where they contact the blade. I also put a TINY drop on both of the detents. I don't think it could get any smoother! It still has tension to it, no blade play, at all.

Thanks for the update! Ive had my Emerson Mini Roadhouse for a couple days now. It feels a tad smoother after opening it all last night. I ordered some Froglube Solvent and CLP.

Thanks man sounds like it will get even better eventually! I love it right now.
