CQC-7A Opinions?

I'm interested in getting a CQC-7A, as i really enjoy the Mini CQC-7B. As a matter of fact the Mini-7 is my ideal travel and motorcycle touring knife. It's just the perfect size and doesn't dig into me like some other handles or shapes do.

Anyway, I'm intrigued by the handle design of the bigger brother and wondered other peoples experiences. I'd prefer the 7A blade shape over the Tanto on the 7B mainly because the Mini has the Tanto already.

personally, on a '7 i like the tanto blade better but i am in the minority imho.

if ya like the '7A ya should also look at SOCFK's, i like the handle better.

but all in all any of the '7s are good.

I have 8 Emersons, and 3 of those are 7A's. My fave is a satin-finished plain-edged one, which is my favorite Emerson so far. It's simple and very comfortable to carry and use. I've recently started using it more again, and am really accustoming myself to the one-sided bevel, and it works great. I'm surprised they were discontinued(?).

The cqc-7a is my favorite emerson knife. It's a great all around knife that isn't too big or too small and can do just about anything you could need from a knife. I like emersons w/out the wave. I like it so much I had STR make a framelock for it and bought a second one as a backup in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks,
Chris

thanks for the input guys, that's what i was looking for. The spear point(?) is outstanding IMO

The SOCFK is really sweet looking and I might bite the bullet for one. Just that the handle is slightly different (more like the M-15, i believe).

on the SOCFK the handles are the same as the specwars.

really the SOCFK is just a waved cheaper specwar, if i remember correctly, but as far as productions go i really like the SOCFK, its pretty close to the top imho, and i carried a green G10 black tanto bladed one for about a year and liked it just fine, tanto blade and all, in fact i have carried the same a few times this month, other than my CQC13 custom and my '12 (well, also my spyderco ti ATR to be honest) its the only folders i have carried this year and i have a few lol.

Everybody should own at least one version of the living legend tactical folder, IE, the Emerson 7 model whether it be the A or the B blade or even an early BenchMade Emerson model. I've owned used and loved both from both companies although I can't say the tanto blade excites me now as much as it did when I was younger. Back then everything had to be a tanto you know? But new toys and new adventures and all you move along. The A blade is far more useful for me personally and I tend to prefer that one now.

About the only thing that bugs me with the 7 model as it stands today is that I like the Wave but have to get the tanto to get it. I like the A but its Waveless. So you make the best of it and flip a coin. Or in my case I add a Wave to the 7A blade by replacing the thumb disc with one I put a hook on to catch the pocket with and then you have the option to remove it at your whim if you like.

I have started using my 7A more than any of my other knives. Simple handle ergos and good basic drop point blade. It's replaced my SOCFK A. Now I want a super 7A waved!!!
How about that Mr. Emerson?

The CQC-7A is a great choice! Go and get one, best ergos and a ideal blade shape for every use. I like it better than the tanto.

Just picked up one from STR. It feels really good in the hand and I prefer the spear point over the tanto for daily use. I'm hoping the re-release this model sometime in the near future. I'll have to check out the A100 also as it is similar.. but I'm thinking the handle is going to be to skinny for my hand.

Just for the record, I find the A100 much more comfortable than the 7. I have small hands, however.

Guys every time i'm near pulling the trigger on the 7A, I'm tempted to first try the SOCFK A. STR hit the nail on the head... I wish it was a Waved model!

The Ergo's of the Mini-7 are great!!! that's what keeps me coming back to the Regular 7A.

Thanks for all the pics and info.

I prefer the SpecWar handle shape - its totally awesome.

I wish Emerson would bring out a Mini CQC11. That would be smoking hot!

emerson is getting ready to produce a run of cqc7A waved models

I was almost ready to post a NEW topic thread with this as a question. I'm in for 2, as a 7A would be the perfect replacement for my wife's "purse knife" (for the last several years it's been a Cold Steel Voyager that was used/abused by me before she adopted it.)

Bring on the waved 7As! :D

Yesterday I just picked up a new CQC-7A. Love it. I need to expand my Emerson collection so I think next time around I will grab the Tanto/chisel unit.
