Just wondering what experience people have had with these?

Also how often do they come up on the second hand market?

Thanks

I've held, and used, both. The standard sized CQC-7a is perfect for most people. I have XL hands and it is just big enough to get a full grip on, and it works well for me with or without gloves. The Mini CQC-7 feels tiny in comparison, even though it's only a little bit shorter. The Mini is just as thick, but is shorter and narrower and feels completely different. For a true emergency, where I cannot afford for the knife to twist in my hand, I would always grab the standard, full sized version. I like the Mini version because the 3" blade is legal almost anywhere.

The spearpoint CQC-7s are pretty uncommon, but they are out there. I wouldn't wait for either secondhand if you can find what you want in stock, especially the mini which was a special, short run. I'm going to go order one right now...

This.^
The excellent handle and that short, stout blade, make the 7 a winner for edc.

I have both and carry both, but the mini-7 gets the most pocket time. It's a perfect everyday, anywhere knife. Very stout and useful, but discreet enough not to bother anyone that may be watching. The spear points are all V ground which I like and the spear point is very useful in an everyday utility role. Just a very solid smaller folder. As Matthew said, the mini feels a good bit different "in hand" because of the narrower handle. My hands are average size, though, and it's a really good fit for for me; thumb disk, liner lock, everything's in just the right place for easy operation.

I forgot to add, one of my favorite thing about the '7 series is the kind of symmetrical shape to the handles, they work well no matter how I pick the knife up and it is easy to tell which way the edge is oriented due to the shape of the grip.

The blades also fit neatly into the handle (like on the CQC-8) so they take up very little space in the pocket.

I really enjoy my 7 AW and carry it a lot. It took me a bit to get used to the handle and if I could go back, think I would go for it without the wave.

Well said. Agree 100%. The mini 7A has become one of my favorites. Just perfect for me.

Believe me if I had the cash I would be snapping up more I have a CQC7 B on the way without wave feature (not a fan) but I like the Commander, Mini Comm, CQC7a and the Seven Mini. I also liked the bulldog and the A100.

Might have to sell a Busse or 2 ha ha

You could move 1 Busse and have a chunk of an Emerson collection.

I dislike the wave as well, I've really enjoyed my A100, mini A-100, Persian, waveless CQC-8, and all of the waveless CQC-7s (As, Bs, and minis).

Honestly don't think I could let one of the Busse's go ha ha.

Would like a mini commander with the wave removed and the more I look at the Mini A100 the more I want one. Without the black blade though.

Love this knife perfect EDC wish I have spear point Verson mane soon. The regular one I have feels great in the hand I try to use other great knives I have but always go back to this one feel naked without it.

I got mine directly from Emerson. That's the only place I could find that still has them in stock. Mine was the mini-7A, waveless V-grind.

Stupidly been watching video after video of the Mini A100. It gets alot of stick on you tube. But hasn't changed my mind I still want one.

That's just one example, that probably hasn't been broken in. I've never seen a 'user' Emerson, with a properly tightened pivot, that had lock stick. The only time I've ever had an Emerson lock up badly, after being broken in, was when my pivot backed out and the blade was at an angle and the lock flexed from a hard snap open, and even that was easily disengaged with thumb pressure.

Both of my Mini A-100s came with a tiny amount of 'lock stick' that went away after opening and closing them a few times. In fact, most Emersons have a bit of 'stick' before being broken in. Lame shortcuts, like coloring the blade tang with sharpie or pencil, just prolong the break in process and put off the inevitable.

If you want a mini A-100 you'd better get one fast, the remnants of the last run aren't going to be around for long...

^^ This ^^
Too many guys get an Emerson and loosen the pivot so much so it's as free as their KVT ball bearing knives, then wonder why things get out of whack.
Emersons aren't "flickers", they are meant to be tight and broken in.. once broken in they smooth out to butter. They aren't for everyone, but those of us who understand them reap the rewards of ownership.

I thought I saw a mini-A7 somewhere recently.. if I find it I'll PM you.

They can really take a long time to fully break in, I've given up on an Emerson knife before only to dig it out and give it another chance and discover a few days later that it is suddenly very smooth.

I thought they were only available from the MotherShip?
