I'm thinking about getting a satin finished plain edged (non waved) CQC-7B-SF, but was wondering if people here preferred the mini version of it..

I recently read an article about carrying a light, every day kind of use folder in the right front pocket, and in the back pocket, carrying a just in case/ better to have it and never need it than not have it, tactical folder in the back pocket.

In this vain, my current front pocket carry is a Benchmade 640 or 530.

For my back pocket I am considering the CQC-7B-SF, the mini CQC-7B-SF, or a Benchmade 707...any thoughts?

One additional thought...it looks like a lot of Emersons are liner locks, but I thought that in 'tactical' situations that liner locks are not the preffered locking mechanism as one could inadvertently disengage the lock causing the blade to fold down cutting your fingers..

This is going to be my first Emerson. I am also considering the CQC14 "Snubby" and a Commandor possibly as well....any thoughts?

i found the mini to be too small for my taste. the regular is not a large knife at all, and carries well in the pocket.

i have never had a liner lock disengage during any type of use, but i have also never had to use a knife for sd.

Would you recommend the waved 7 or the non waved?

my seven is an older version, thus unwaved.

but i have three waved emersons and like them a lot. sark, 13, and combat kerambit.

i just wouldn't recommend practicing the wave too much, you'll tear up your pants.

Once you try the liner lock you'll see that you ain't gonna be knocking that out of place inadvertantly in any situation. I have a mini, get the regular size.

My first Emerson was a mini-7

The mini7 is pretty small but its still a usefull size and nice to carry. The regular is not much bigger and is a nice knife also, i carry my mini far more often though.
The 14 is also a nice sized blade, the full size handle is a pluss over the mini7s rather small handle as well. the 14 is a knife i wish had a frame lock though.

The wave is pretty cool and defo. good on the smaller EKIs but i find its a bit of a pain on some of my bigger Emersons. It does have its uses but its up to you if you like it or not.

The best EKIs are the HDs, the HD-7 or the CQC-12 have frame locks and are tough knives by anyones standards, they are well worth a look if your prepaired to spend a bit more cash.

i have had a CQC7B WAVE since 2004, and i love it. i actually ordered the non wave version, but they sent me the wave, and boy am i glad! the wave is amazing! i never had to use it to save my life, but i wouldn't hesitate to.
