CQC-7BW tapped for tip down carry

I've recently acquired an Emerson CQC7B with green scales, satin blade, and a 2002 date on the blade. But the scales are tapped for tip down carry as well as tip up. The liners are not tapped for tip down carry. So, can anyone tell me if this ever happened from Emerson? Are these scales factory Emerson? Any way to tell? What about the satin blade? I haven't seen that very often on Emersons. Rare, not rare? Thanks.

Ken- The "satin" blade is the EKI Hardchrome coating, which is no longer used.
Randy will have to answer your other questions but I think at one time the 7's were tapped for TU or TD.

I have a CQC-7A spear point blade, plain edge, hard chrome, green handle, year 2000. It has the option of tip up or tip down. Mine has the holes going through the liner, and I have it set up for tip down carry. Yours sounds and looks original. Also, the original Benchmade Emersons were tip down only.

I'd like to see all Emersons drilled and tapped for up/down/left/right. Let me decide how I'll carry the knife.

Any chance you could post a pic of yours. Interested to see it. The liners on this one are not tapped for tip down, only the scales. I also have an early Benchmade and pulled it out and yep it is tip down only. I noticed that the scales are just slightly thinner than the Emerson and it sure seems like it is lighter.

Seems like I went to post a photo some time ago and found I had to use a photo site. Had planned to just load from my desktop. Technology challenged, I gave up at that point. If you send me an email, I could take a photo and send it to you as an attachment.

I also had the same knife in serrated form, but sold it a long while back. I still have a green Commander, hard chrome, serrated, year 2000 - probably my second-most carried Emerson.

kgajewsky,

Have sent you 4 photos - seem to be taking a long time to send. Not the fastest service here in Palmer, Alaska. Probably had to wake the Pony Express rider up...
