CQC-7v or CQC-7B?

To those that have both the "standard" CQC-7B and the newer CQC-7v, which do you prefer? Does the v grind make a huge different over the chisel grind? I have a CQC-7BW, but I find I have been giving the CQC-7v some though lately.

FWIW, I used my 7 to carve the turkey just fine yesterday! :)

Thanks!

I'm new to Emersons, but is not the "v" grind still really a chisel grind? In other words, even on the so-called "v" grind the primary grind or cutting surface is still chisel, right?

The V-grind Emersons have a chisel edge bevel; it is the primary bevel that is a V-grind. The primary grind gives the knife its overall shape, so it gets to be called a V-grind knife. The edge bevel is relatively small, and therefore secondary in "descriptive importance."

I have had both from Emerson...and I still prefer my chisel grind. For me it just cuts better...longer. Albeit that may have something to do with my sharpening skills or severe lack thereof...

It almost sounds like the asymmetrical grind BUSSE used for awile.

Just for the record lads, the blades are coated with TufCloth protectant. Never heard of people using that as a condiment for a holiday meal, it might make the Turkey taste better. Whatever works I always say, ;)

I have both and don't see much difference unless your cutting something like 1/2" cardboard, then the "V" cuts straighter in long cuts. For cutting "normal" things, no difference to me. I find the main difference to be visual.

I think any hint of TufCloth has been washed away years ago. Any knife I use for food (which means all of them) are washed with soap and water.

Thanks drillsgt! That's pretty much what I thought.

Good to know. You did not indicate the newness of your knife in the first post. Tuf Cloth can be nasaty stuff.
